Wiper blade replacements, where to buy...

My blades are pretty much shot and need to be replaced. Should I buy replacements from BMW (which I expect to be expensive) or are there easy blade replacements that will fit, and can be purchased at most stores....

Thanks for the help

I don't know you and your car's history or where you are time wise in Full Maintenence, but I regularly get mine blades replaced by my dealership. Here's a quote with some info form an earlier post of mine:

"Per the "Caring for Your Vehicle" book that came with my '02, you should have your wiper blades replaced twice a year. From page 8, under Window Care, I quote "The wiper blades should be replaced twice a year, before and after the cold season. This is especialy important for vehicles with a rain sensor." Last fall my dealership replaced them no problem--maybe it's worth asking when in for service if your dealerships will do it for you."

Otherwise, I might order them from one of the dealerships who discount BMW parts if you want BMW blades. Good luck!

I concur with Anita, the blades are replaced for free under the maintence plan until 3 years or 36000 miles. I have not seen a blade replacement available outside the dealers in my searches. The dealer allows you the option to buy a complete set of new blades altogether or a rubber insert replacement if you are out of warrenty. I suggest going for the complete blade replacement as the rubber one can be a real PITA to install and the metal strips that hold the rubber in place become weak after removing them to insert the new rubber.

Do you feel it necessary to have the wiper blades replaced 2x per year? Just curious, because I would have though once per year or even 18 months would be often enough. I admit my car is a garage queen, but I just changed the wipers for the first time after 3+ years of ownership.

Actually my wife's 330Ci convertible needs wipers replaced much more frequently than my other cars that don't have auto-wipers. I think the automatic feature causes more wear and more frequent use than manual controls. Twice per year may be a bit much, though.

Not to sound too sassy, but even if they are not obviously showing wear, why not have them replaced? It's free under full maintenence, recommended by BMW, and only takes a few minutes to do. I have it done when I'm having other things taken care of at my dealership. And mine do tend to start showing wear and tear pretty frequently anyway.

Personally, I would spring the extra $$ and get the BMW replacements. I've found that no aftermarket blades seem to work as well for so long.

I just bought the rubber inserts for about 12 bucks from a BMW dealer. $27 sounds more like the price for the full blades.
Thats what I though, but the sales person confirmed that the $27 was for just the rubber inserts. I had to ask twice because I though he was making a mistake...
